FUNERAL PROGRAM:

In loving memory of Mary L. Gregory. May 6, 1925 – July 7, 2001. Thursday, July 12, 2001. 10:00am. Ted Foster Funeral Home. 10192 Halls Ferry Road. St. Louis, Missouri 63136. Pastor Larnell Griffin. Officiating. Twenty third psalms. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me; Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, for ever. Amen. Obituary. Mary Louise Gregory, was born May 6, 1925, to the late, Burness and Setular Broussard in Port Arthur, Texas. The Lord called Mary home on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at 6:30am. Mary united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Bob Gregory in 1944 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She worshiped at God’s Way Pentecostal Church. Mary was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She opened her heart and home to anyone in need. Every Sunday, she insisted on cooking and would make sure that her children would be there. Her neighbors and friends also knew they could get a home cooked meal at Mrs. Gregory’s house. This tradition has kept her family close. Mary’s goal was to make sure everyone was in good health and cared for. She was loved by all, and we miss her dearly. Mary leaves to cherish her memory; four children, Sandra Clay, Deborah Allen, Linda Thompson and Willie Bob Gregory Jr.; her son, Curtis Gregory, preceded her in death; two sisters, Dorothy Lombard and Gladys Nowlin; and two brothers, Al Broussard and Alfred Broussard; eleven grandchildren; Tonya Roden, John Clark Jr., Antonio Clay, Tangela Brooks, Carlos Allen, Otha Thompson, Lamont Thompson, Tiffany Gregory, Robert Gregory, Tara Gregory and Tina Gregory; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Just one. Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes, by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, but only one mother, in the whole world. Kate Douglas Wiggin. Order of Service. Processional. Scripture. Prayer. Selection: Sis. Mary Alice Smith. Acknowledgements and condolences. Tribute: Great-grandchildren. Obituary: Read silently. Selection: Pastor Larnell Griffin. Sis. Mary Alice Smith. Eulogy: Pastor Larnell Griffin. Gods Way Pentecostal Church. Parting view. Benediction. Recessional. Acknowledgement. The arms of my friends console me; the love of my family surrounds me. The goodness and kindness of my neighbors sustain me like a staff. Though I am exhausted with grief, I am supported, as by a great shining light that rises up within me. I can lift up my head. I can walk upright. I can even smile. For their sympathy is like a serene ocean in which I see glimpses of goodness and beauty never revealed before. In it, my agony is soothed, the ache of my heart becomes bearable, and I know, one day, will heal. The family wishes to thank everyone for the many warm expressions of thoughtful kindness, your phone calls, cards, flowers and food shared with us. They have helped immeasurably in lightening our burden of sadness. We want you to know that we shall remain forever grateful. May God continue to bless each of you. Pallbearers. John O Clark Jr. Lamont Thompson. Antonio Clay. Carlos Allen. Otha Thompson. Robert Gregory. Interment. Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum. 5239 West Florissant. Services entrusted to: Ted Foster Funeral Home.

NOTES:

Grandmama was a beautiful, good-hearted and caring woman. We were the recipients of her never ending generosity for which I could never ever repay her for. She was a good cook! I used to sit at the kitchen table and watch her. I regret that I spent more time eating her delicious food than learning the recipes from her. She was great at gardening, sewing and interior decoration. She even re-upholstered and painted her own furniture. And she didn’t play when it came to us jumping on the beds and playing with her chandeliers. Everyone was welcome in her house and she was quite the hostess as evidenced by Sunday family gatherings and holidays. One of my fondest memories was of riding the bus and when we got on Lee Ave, I would let the window down, searching for her, great-aunt Helen or both of them sitting out on the front porch (during the spring/summer). If I spotted them, I would yell out the window at them and wave. I didn’t care if I was too loud and annoyed everyone on the bus, I had to give a shout out to my elders. Grandmama died of cancer. She is gone but not forgotten and this page will be a testament to such a kind and memorable woman.
